The 'parts bike' idea is a good one

I bought one for my 1980 KZ 550, only it was a low mileage non runner that I got for $75. Over the 129,000 miles that I owned the KZ, I ended up using the forks, wheels, cylinder, head, carburetors, speedo, clutch plates, and several minor electrical bits. Saved myself a ton of money.

Parts prices at dealers are unbelievable. I usually try to buy things like bearings, seals and fasteners from auto parts or industrial supply stores which are considerably cheaper.
