Eh, it's all personal opinion...

The only thing *I* like better about SOME larger displacement motorcycles is that there's more physical room. But I'm 6'4" and 240~250lbs, I take up a bit of room, especially going 2-up.

There's a (false) mentality that HP/acceleration will 'save the day' when it comes to hairy situations. While that's true in maybe 1 of 1000 scenarios, handling and brakes are vastly more useful. And most motorcyclists are just plain in a rush to get "there", and feel that a lower HP vehicle (that can still break every speeding law on the books in the US) isn't fast enough. There's a hindrance when passing on a 2-lane highway, you don't just get to pass wherever you please... instead you plan it like you would in any sort of commuter car.

But lots of people like that overhead of power. It's a want, not a need. The "touring" bikes of days gone by only had a tiny bit more HP than the Ninja 250 does today, doesn't really bother anyone back then.
