3600+ miles, 15 days on a Harley Ninja (ok, Sportster)

My working theory for this post is that a Sportster is to Harley as a Ninja is to Sportbikes. Works for me, and lets me post about my trip.

I got to visit scores of friends, family, Class of 1985'ers, and scenic sites in OK, AR, TN, MS, AL, IL, IA, NE, CO, NM and TX. I hit three rain storms (one with hail), needed five motel nights, mooched off of friends and relatives for the other nights, and had a great time. Pics here and in follow-ups.

A stock Sporty is not a good touring bike for comfort, but the long, hot highways are where it's in its element, and I felt my '05 Ninja was too. Twisty roads work will for Ninjas, of course, and as far as air-cooled Harleys those are great fun on a Sporty too, though it takes a lot more effort than a Ninja would.

My route is here, and I'll mention mods in the follow-up.
