I am signed up to do a track day at Laguna Seca on March 30th through Zoom Zoom - http://z2trackdays.com/ti/z2/catgroup.html?category=30%20March%2c%202012%20%40%20Laguna%20Seca It's expensive, and not many sessions, but it's Laguna Seca! I'll be driving up from Palmdale on Thursday afternoon, and could fit one more bike on my trailer, and possibly a third in the bed of my truck, though someone would have to drive separate as my truck can only take two people. If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know. :)
I <3 Laguna Seca
Yesterday was my track day up at Laguna Seca, and it was simply amazing. It actually didn't start off very well, because for the first two sessions I was battling a badly slipping clutch, but after the second session I adjusted the clutch cable (not sure why I didn't think of it earlier), and it got a lot better. Still not perfect (some slippage when I shift at high RPMs), but definitely ridable. The last three sessions were a blast!! The line around the track was pretty easy to pick out, so I was able to concentrate more on my form and being consistent, which was really nice.
The corkscrew was insane. For anyone not familiar, it is one of the most famous corners in racing, and has a 59 foot drop over just 450 feet of track, while starting with a left turn into an immediate right turn. It was a ton of fun!!! The rush of dropping that far, along with flipping from left to right was amazing.
Since it was a combined track day with cars and motorcycles, I took the opportunity to go for a ride on the track in a car, which was a ton of fun as well. It was in a Laguna Seca Edition Boss 302 Mustang, which was quite fitting, considering the locale. Having 440 horsepower, it was quite fast, and did really well around the corners. The thing that impressed me most though was the braking!! The force exerted to slow that huge car down that fast was very impressive, to say the least.
And now, a few pictures -
