I recently purchased a 2004 ninja 250 as a project bike. My goal is to get it up and running and learn in the processes. The previous owner told me that all it needed was a valve adjustment. So, I set about adjusting the valves and when I got the the intake valve closest to the timing chain, I found that cannot adjust it to the point where I can even fit the minimum spec feeler gauge under the cam lobe while the engine is at 2TDC. Does this mean I have to take the head off to inspect the valves themselves? Or is there possibly another reason I can't get the clearance necessary?
