We've all been watching your progress Duke. Your wife, Leon and the rest of the on scene people have done a FANTASTIC job of tracking your progress, relaying the trials along the trail... it was a monsterously long ride and you did it - we're all in awe.

All I can say is wow!

Woot.

We're all so proud of you Duke.

I had to do a 7 MINUTE oral presentation about MYSELF for one of my classes this week. I talked about the motorcycle for a while, and when I got the typical "You rode one of those things down to Tennesee?" question, I actually talked about Duke for a while, and him "carrying the Ninja 250 banner" in the Iron Butt!

Way to go Duke!!

Congratulations Duke!!!! Great job, great ride!

Also, thanks and congrats to Heather, the mobile pit crew and all the other that posted updates about Duke.

There is some talk on the LD list about reliability of the BMW machines. There have been a lot of mechanical failures this year and in '03. Maybe some of these peeps should consider the 250 Ninja. There have been 2 at the start line the past 2 rallies, and, there have been 2 at the finish line the past two rallies!!!!

Again, Congrats Duke. Can't wait to hear the stories.

You forget the fact that these are NOT off the shelf Ninja 250's.
Both have had extensive engine work done to them to have survived the rally. It's quite possible that a stock 250 would have died a horrible death unless it was a brand new motor.

I don't know about the other bikes, but the 250 is not the best choice to do the Iron Butt on, in stock form. That's the very reason why Leon and Duke used the bike in the Rally's, though.

Subject: Oh, I think that theory could be tested.

Leon and Duke wanted to be 100% sure they'd finish, hence the lower end modifications to the bike. But I don't think the engine would necessarily have to be brand-spankin' new "just" to survive 10,000 to 12,000 miles over 11 days.

Anyway, one Ninja 250 has survived each of the last two IBRs. But only one has entered each one, so it's not a significant data point.

On the other hand, it's still pretty fun to ignore statistics and rag on the BMWs for breaking down all the time. Smile

Oh yeah -- Congrats, Duke! Welcome to the club. Smile You will discover soon that IBDone is not as impressive as you thought. Just less traffic than "the big list."

Tested hummmm. What about a 250 team IBR in 07. I am so inspired by Duke and Leon I may actually spend money on my bike. and if you have seen my bike you know what I mean.
