Assuming there's another rider doing this all over again next time it happens, perhaps someone who knows the route could post a map on this site and trace a red line showing progress as it happens? (Just for the benefit of us non-Americans who aren't as familiar with the state codes you guys have). A bit like BT Humble did for his (less punishing, fewer miles per day) trip around Australia: http://members.optusnet.com.au/~za2bb/odyssey/index.html

Just a suggestion anyway. Feel free to cheerfully ignore Wink

What is this IBR? I am planning to make a lap around the United States next summer on my Ninja 250.My trip is in the early stages, so I don't have many details. I will have a website and will be updating it every day.

Check out http://www.sportbikes.org/tlw.asp

Kind of hard to show the route for 100 riders going all different directions. Could be that in 2005 all riders will have the transponder system used in the website above.

Actually I was thinking along the lines of only tracking our champion Ninja 250 rider's progress (be that Leon, Andrew Duthie, or whoever else may be taking part in the next one), not tracking IBR riders in general. Maybe one of the mods could have a little gif map of North America attached to the main topic post with a squiggly red line showing progress to date of the Ninja 250.

I'm just amazed at how quickly Leon seems have gone from one end of the country to another (on much the same bike that I would feel tired after riding just a couple of hundred miles in a day!)

Problem there is that we'd have to have almost minute-to-minute communication with the rider to do so. There are many optional routes available, choosing the ones that *are* possible and determining the best order in which to hit them is part of the scoring, and the riders often have to make choices and changes to same while en route.

It's a very free-form contest, and oft-times nobody is entirely sure who's winning (or losing) or even where the individual riders *are* at any given moment.

I've seen these guys sponsor other kooks and give them use of a phone. I wish I'd thought of telling Leon earlier and he could have hit them up for one for his ride.

Leon had actually discussed carrying one of these with him. I'm not sure why it didn't pan out.

This one is being carried by Todd Witte. He's in 25th place, one spot in front of Leon. If you look closely, you'll see that he also went to Nova Scotia at the beginning of this leg.
