I've come to the reluctant conclusion that I won't be able to ride in the rally. I've always been a shoestring operation in LD rallying, and this year the shoestrings have broken.
I've been trying hard to find a situation to get back in the same sort of financial and free time combination I've enjoyed for the last few years, but there's just nothing out there.
I have found a job that I believe I'll enjoy, but it pays a little more than half of what I was making previously. It does have another upside in that my commute is about 1 mile; if I ride the rally bike to work I'll only have to gas up every 6 months.
Thanks for everything, guys; I still can't believe the support I've gotten from the people on this board, both physical and moral. |

With the economy the way it is and how difficult the job market is out there, you have to take care of your own. It's awesome that you really tried. Don't worry, you'll always be the Ironbutter to us!
Oh and maybe we can finally turn that big metal round thing into the keg it's meant to be! |

At least you found a job; there are many more folks who have not been as lucky. Anywho, you have your priorities in order and it is good to see you making good decisions (i make bad decisions ). Hopefully things will rebound quickly!

It seems the choice always is to have money without time to enjoy spending it, or time without money so you can take advantage of it. The job I have now is a reasonable compromise (a little money and a little free time), but it's in OK so that it takes extra time and money to go anywhere. NOW I see why you and Hickman became LD riders.

At only a mile to work, you can get ready for the next one? Walking to work should build your stamina.
I've been there a few times. After the last time, I got too conservative and gave up the MC riding. I'm back on 2 now... and trying to relearn... but I did recover and pay for a house in that time. |
