Subject: Peter Lenz, 13, dies at Indy in a warm-up lap crash

This is terrible news to hear coming from the events at the Red Bull GP at Indianapolis this weekend. Up and coming racer Peter Lenz was killed in an accident on the warm-up lap for the MD250H race.

My heart goes out to his family and to the family and rider that hit him.

I believe that Jim Race did an interview with him on Friday. I was looking forward to hearing it next week, not knowing that it'd be some of his last words...

Subject: I'm very sorry to hear that. Strange circumstances.

A deadly crash on the warmup lap? The other rider must've run over his head. That's just too bad. He was really good, and, from all reports, a decent person, too.

But it appears that he crashed and was walking away from his bike when he was hit by another bike/rider. It definitely changes how you look at the incident but it's tragic no matter how you look at it.

It's really sad, what an amazing rider. I just found that video you mentioned. I sat there giggling watching him pass all those bigger bikes.

Not that that says anything...

The USGPRU, the race organization that he was a part of did an event at Thunderhill a couple months back and ran in the same race as the 250s. They were the bigger bikes in that matchup and were FLYING.

It has devastated a lot of the young riders around here. I met him at the GP last year; so self-assured and still a real kid. A great loss. Now the media is all over this age thing. Such a shame.
