Subject: Let's ride... Kawasakis! |
|
- Where: Pomona, CA (and others, nationwide)
- When: Soon (dates vary by city, 4/30 and 5/1 in L.A.)
- Experience Level: Most! (Maybe not absolute noobs)
OK, the title of this post was influenced by that tear-jerking, but excellent, video from Taiwan. If there's anyone who HASN'T seen it yet, here's a link:

Now, on to business. At kawasaki.com, there's a link on the home page to "Ticket to Ride". This is the same deal you can get if you attend one of the motorcycle shows - demo rides of their street bike line - but this time Kawasaki is doing it on their own, not in conjunction with a show. There are a LOT of events. Click on the calendar to see them. Sometimes, as in my case, events are happening in multiple cities on the same weekend (weekend of April 30, Los Angeles and Charlotte).
So, what I'm suggesting is that all my fellow L.A. area riders arrange a time to go to Fairplex in Pomona and meet up for demo rides of whatever strikes your fancy. I've never ridden an inline-4 sportbike and I at least want a taste. Also interested in the Ninja 650. I rode a Vulcan 900 last year at the Long Beach show and that was pretty weird... looking forward to getting impressions on more bikes. There's gonna be competition to get in the line for demo rides. Reply on this thread and let's see if we can figure out a time when we can all get what we want (I'm guessing early Sunday morning will be a best bet.)
By the way, these events are linked in to a contest where you could WIN a next-gen 250. Interesting, eh?

I have no plans that weekend yet, so anytime would work, though I have to get from Palmdale down there. Perhaps I could go through the Angeles Forest, and meet you somewhere to ride in?
I'll hopefully try the Ninja 1000 or the Z1000. Those are the only ones that really pique my interest currently... |

Sign up starts at 8 am, rides start at 9 am and end at 5pm
I will probably show up a little before 8am.
I'll probably try to show up both days since I am so close to it. |

But I have a family commitment in Palm Springs that weekend.
I hope someone posts a report about it! |

You (or anyone else up north) would be welcome to stay at my house in Palmdale, and I might even be convinced to loan you my 250 if you didn't want to ride all the way down |

I'm probably too much of a newbie to make a long trip like that and, for the same reason, I probably shouldn't be borrowing other people's Ninjas just yet.
It was very generous of you to offer, though, and I'm looking forward to meeting you and the other SoCal members soon. I've really appreciated the help you've given me in the forums.
Maybe after I get a bit more practice this summer I'll ride down and meet you guys somewhere for a ride.

I'll hopefully be heading up to your area sometime too, so maybe there can be a SF Bay area meet up |

| I plan to get there before 8:00, to have a decent shot at signing up for my desired bike(s). A few people from a Riverside-based Ninja 250 meetup group will be there, too. |

| I've looked a lot at what they're bringing, and I'm just not excited. I'm done with the cruiser thing, and I cannot comfortably get my feet down on any of thier large bikes. And before anyone says "you don't have to flat foot" I mean I'm on tip toe one one side while the bike is on the side stand. The only bikes that interest me are the 250 and 650, both of which I own (new gen be damned!) |
