 Subject: Burnout for Freedom 2011

  • Where: everywhere, coast to coast
  • When: july 4th @ noon (11 central, 10 mountain, 9 pacific)
  • Experience Level: any

i picked up an issue of Motorcyclist and saw an article about this event and thought it was pretty bad ass. The article reads; "By federal pronouncement, all law-enforcement agencies will stand down at the appointed time, allowing us bikers to engulf the streets, elevators, pre-schools, and Hometown Buffets of America in an acric cloud of flying molten rubber rocked by the wail of shrieking engines." Tell me that doesnt sound like fun?

ps. in case you were wondering, the idea is we burn up 10.5million (the amount of registered bikers) sets of tires in one day, and the tire industry gets some sort of boost. thoughts?

I think that such an event would only confirm to the public motorcyclists are the braindead asshats that they already think we are.

I think they don't know that such asshats are a small percentage of the motocycling public.

I think that any asshat that wants to promote such an event is, well, an asshat.

Asshat.

Perhaps I give Obama more credit than he deserves, but it seems unlikely to me that anyone in the administration would think a massive, wasteful, polluting destruction of tires manufactured largely in other countries would help our economy. Mine are made in Brazil and Japan.

But more important is the eloquent concern that loudboys has identified: asshattery. However, given that a small percentage of burnouts end in injury to those that are performing or enjoying them, it might be a reasonably effective way to curtail the US Asshat Surplus Supply (US-ASS) while increasing our trade deficit. You win some, you lose some...

only because I'm curious to see how far the concept of asshattery can go. Somehow my first thought was that maybe there was a different root word and Bokonon was responsible for editing it, but recalling loudboys' earlier literature I figure he was quite capable of coming up with such an indeed eloquent concept himself. Thumb up

"Motorcyclist" is kind of the "Men's Health" of motor mags, i.e., for those who don't really want to leave behind adolescence. I think they're trying out some new replacement for "Gina." I'm getting pretty old now, I guess, so iIt's "Rider," "Roadbike" and "Motorcycle Consumer News" for me, and when nobody's looking, "American Rider." I did ditch "Readers Digest" a few years ago, so I guess I am trying to reclaim some youth.

Search for "asshat" within that page, for a better explanation of the fine points of usage.

Gave up Reader's Digest?? I gave that up when I still had all my hair. I guess I STILL have all my hair - it's just that some of it has moved from the top of my head to other locations.
