 Subject: Oil change dramas

Hi guys, I'm a long time lurker / owner of a Gpx250 who just upgraded to a ninja 300.

After performing my first oil change I noticed that a gust of wind has blown some small leaves into the oil funnel (never happened before in my life), So there is a small chance that some of them made it into the engine. I noticed after I had filled and idled the engine for around 30 seconds. I was just wondering what steps would be best to take to resolve this problem

So far I have, drained and replaced the oil again but left the same filter. My plan is to run this new oil till it is warm and do yet another oil + filter change. Any additional steps I should take ?

Thanks in advance!

When I first changed the oil on my 250, the filter had quite a bit of pine needles stuck in it. I mean, thats what the filter is there for right? Unless a lot of detrius got in there, you should be fine.
On a side note, is the oil filter a screw on canister style for the 300?

I wouldn't have even drained the oil the first time. Leaves would get caught in the screen first, then what bits made it through that would be pulverized by the oil pump, whereafter they'd get caught by the filter. About the only thing I might have done is to pull just the screen and see if anything made it that far. Oh, and you ought to do that first thing anyway because all sorts of stuff winds up there on a new engine, like bits of gasket sealer and such from the engine's original assembly.
