 Subject: 15t for the 300

When the 300 first came out, I checked the gearing. It seemed at the time that a 15t wouldn't be necessary for this bike.

Now, I'm reading comments that the 15t makes first gear much more useable, causes the speedometer to read correctly as verified by GPS (instead of reading high), and calms the bike down at highway speeds.

Some folks were wondering if putting a 15t on could affect warranty claims. I don't know anything about that, but I think I'll hold off until after the first service. Any big problems should show up by then.

Wow, I'll discount all other claims when presented with this one... Unless the speedometer is wired to the rear wheel, of course!

 Subject: Speedo connection point change

The pre-gen and next-gen speedometers were (IIRC) connected to the wheel hub. The 300 speedo is (apparently) wired to the transmission, under a cover. If so, some gearing changes would mess up the speedo. Probably just chance that the 15t makes it come out right - assuming the reports are true.

I don't have a GPS, so I'll have to find one of those speed measurement zones with the automatic "Your Speed is XX" signs to find out. Those are getting more common around here. But we've got a ways to go before the snow and ice melt, and even longer before the streets get swept clean of all the gravel. Blah.

Can't go wrong with a 15t. Never hear of any damage caused by one.
Never had a warranty issue with any new bike.
