Yea I just did some reading on the cooling system in the FAQ and gathered that it fluctuates between the "low" and "high" level when warm and cold. I'll go ahead and make a little res. Yup, one hose goes from the rad to the bottom of the res, and another goes from the top of the res to the bottom of the bike.

What must be done...must be done...

yup it's used quite a bit. you'll want to ensure that the tube running to the radiator is located at, or reaches the bottom of what ever container you fabricate. I'm guessing that you'll need about 250 ml of free space for coolant expansion.

Oh and you'll still need an overflow tube coming out of the reservoir.

 Subject: coolant reservoir?

I'm struggling with a slick way to do the coolant res. Does anyone know if this bike utilizes the res during regular riding? Could I get away with just not having one? I could run a long tube from the rad down under the bike for excess to drain instead of going into the res. I know some engines need the res however and utilize the overflow regularly. So I don't want to run without it if that's the case.

any input would be awesome. I'm considering using a steel flask, tapping the top of it, and mounting it right by the radiator if I have to have one.

I since this pic I put the K&N filter on and some grips. Got it running well but need to jet it. New jets on the way! Very excited to have a ninja 250 for my daily again.

That is what I wanted to hear. Nice and simple. Thank you for the FAQ link, I didn't even think to search for that because I underestimated the thoroughness of the FAQ.

Won't happen again.

Subject: It has a regular, old-fashioned thermostat.

One sitting in the coolant that opens when the temp is high enough.

 Subject: Think I've got it.

After studying the wiring diagram I am pretty sure one is a temp sensor and the other is the fan switch. Meaning there is no thermostat?

Hope I've got that straight.

Subject: Check out my street tracker ninja!

Here is a link to my build thread: http://metricmoto1.wordpress.com/category/ninjette-street-tracker/

I'm starting to wire an 05 ninja and I have a quick question about the cooling fan/ radiator. I've wired many bikes but only 2 water cooled and they were all very unique (CX500 and GL1000).

There is a sensor on the left side of the radiator with a 2 wire lead. Am I right to assume this is a temp sensor for the fan? Above the head there is another sensor with a one wire lead, which I am guessing is for the temp gauge (or I should say, "was" for it).

Do these bikes have a thermostat? And if so, are they electric or mechanical? I was just going to run the fan through a manual switch, so the two sensors I mention above would be left disconnected. But if either of them actuate a thermostat then I need to wire them in.

If anyone has any input I'd love to hear it!
