Hopefully I'm not the only 250 Rider this year?

It?s that time of year again so get your routing skills ready! The BMW Club of Southern California, in association with the Southern California Motorcycling Association (SCMA) announces the 5th Annual Park 'N Ride Rally on October 11, 2014. This year the Rally is sponsored by New Century BMW Motorcycles and will feature some new rules and locations but the same great prizes.

With similarities to a scavenger hunt, the Park 'N Ride Rally is an easy-to-complete day ride to some of the most interesting places in Central and Southern California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Designed for those who have never entered a rally before as well as experienced riders. We have two classes: a Novice class where you only have to cover 100 miles and go to 3 bonus locations to be a finisher, and an Open class, which is for more experienced rally riders, or those who like a challenge. We've designed this rally so it won't matter if you are coming from San Diego, San Francisco, Reno, Arizona or Utah. You can start near home and won't have to travel a long distance to complete the rally or be competitive. You do not need to ride a BMW motorcycle to enter. All are welcome!

New Century BMW Motorcycles is providing the Open class finishers with a $300 gift certificate for the 1st place finisher; $200 for second place; and $100 for third. These certificates can be used for merchandise or for service. Additionally, for those who have never participated in an Open class in prior P?NR rallies, the novice class will have its own awards.

Some facts:

? The Rally will run throughout Central Southern California, portions of Arizona, Nevada and Utah and you can start the rally from any place you like. You don?t have to take a long ride to get to a specific start location. So it won?t matter where you start, you?ll have an equal chance and be able to cover similar and reasonable miles.

? You can start anytime after 7:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, 2014 and from wherever you want. To be a finisher, you must complete the minimum for your class and reach the check-in point (New Century BMW Motorcycles) by 3:00 PM (details are explained on the rally pages at the http://parknride.bmwcosc.com/).

? This is an 8-hour bonus-hunting event, and all finishers are eligible for the SCMA Traveler's Award.

? The entry fee is $35, with discounts for being AMA or SCMA affiliated club member. A portion of which will go to Angel Flight West.

? Additional raffle tickets can be purchased at the time of registration at $5 a piece, all proceeds going to Angel Flight West.

? A silent auction will be held at the end of the rally, all proceeds also going to Angel Flight West.

For complete details and to register, please go to the Club?s Rally page http://parknride.bmwcosc.com/.

Registration is now open?don?t be left out of the fun!!

Hope to see you at the scoring table!

Well this rally is in the books ... You can learn more about it here http://parknride.bmwcosc.com

How about next year some of you southern CA, AZ, and NV riders join me? It's great riding and there's a ton of rally swag at the finish (I came away with a pair of Held gloves and a set of Butler maps) You won't find quality goods like that at many events.

Come on out enjoy a day of great riding and good moto-fun.

Subject: I'll try for next year

Alhambra is right near one of my favorite haunts. I had a commitment for a different event on Oct 11 this year, but I'll make a note to check next year's schedule. I've never rallied, so I'm not sure it'll be fun, but I'm guessing yes.

The PNR rally is normally announced in August and will be run in late Sep or early October on a Saturday. My work schedule has me out of the country most of the year but if I'm home when the rally is on ... I'll be there.

I can't see the event details unless I'm a member, and it costs $30/yr to join. (Seriously? The AMA is $50 and gets me roadside assistance.) But the home page indicates that the rally, whatever the details are, takes place on October 17.

Bonus locations in, like Utah?? Maybe the way to go is to head way out of town on Friday and collect the bonus spots as we ride back toward Malibu.

Well that's one way to go. Back the timeline up 8 hours ... Utah to the Rock Store ... possible, yes. but that'd be cutting it close.
