Subject: Carbureted 250 Idles Low when Warm (Rides Great) |
|
| I started having an issue where I'll start my bike up (starts first or second kick from the starter), it idles great. I let it idle for 30-60 seconds, then go ride it. It rides great. When I come to a stop after it's running for several minutes, it idles quite low. I have it set to idle around 1800 normally, and it will idle around 8-900 when at operating temp. I pulled the carbs to clean them, and this helped a little, before it would almost die the idle would go so low, now it does the 8-900. Valve clearances are in normal ranges, this was a sudden issue, one day it was fine, one day it was not. Last year I pulled the carbs to clean and tune, I tuned a little rich, it was getting pops and bangs, but running well. After I got this issue, I turned the screws in half a turn, and it feels overall better when driving than last year, and the pops/bangs are reduced. It also has some hang rev, if I rev it past 3k, it drops and hangs at 3k. Anyone insight is greatly appreciated. |

Electrical issues. By electrical, I'm thinking about the coils/wires/plugs having an internal issue that only exhibits when hot (more resistance).
Hanging idle drop would make me look towards an air leak After the carbs (or another situation that leads to a lean running condition, could be a clog inside the carb too... not questioning your carb cleaning, just know that everyone's human and not all fuel is the cleanest.
Good luck, hopefully this will give you some ideas to check |

I would check the carb connections for a vacuum leak.
Hanging revs are typically a vacuum leak or a cable/carb slide issue. |
