Re: Ah

I can only think of one example I've ever seen of motor vehicle manufacturer doing this - Mercedes Benz used to break in at the factory every engine made for the 450SEL 6.9 (the top of the line, special order M-100 variant of the 70's S class - remember the car Robert DeNiro launches a rocket from in the crappy movie 'Ronin'?) But that was a car that in the late 70s cost around US$45,000 (that was when $45,000 was still a lot of money!) so I guess it's probably a very substantial cost. They ran each one for 265 minutes, interestingly 40 minutes were at full load (something to do with varying the temperature to better seat the rings and seals perhaps?).
