What octane? Spark advance?

It's well known you can increase the HP of a vehicle by advancing the spark timing and increasing the gasoline octane by a substantial amount, say, 10% HP. I believe there are timing advance kits for the Ninjette. How easy is this to do? What octane is normally used for the 250? Does anyone add Xylene (ie. Outlaw, Octane104, etc.) If everyone uses and/or is recommended by the manual say, 87 or higher octane, a significant spark advance could be achieved since 93 octane is available usually everywhere (and I have access to 100 no-lead octane) or you can mix your own batch by adding Xylene to 90 octane to produce 100 octane. Any tech-heads out there? (I'm afraid to ask since I've seen posts of people afraid of putting in a platinum non-OEM plug in their bike..)

Mike
