Break in tach-readings

I'm at 200 miles now at a somewhat agonizing < 4000 RPMs (though I've been sustaining at exactly 4000 RPMs for the majority of the riding on back-roads) and have decided to work my way up in a more gradual, linear RPM increase as such:

Milage RPMs
------- -------
0 4000
150 4250
200 4500
250 5000
300 5250
350 5500
500 6000

I don't think this gradual increase will cause too many problems, but I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

More importantly, however, is that the tach idle when the bike is warmed-up is 1500 to 1600 RPMs. I believe the carbs are set too high? I believe this is too high an idle RPM range. I think it supposed to be around 1100 or so. Interestingly enough, the bike originally would idle at 2100 RPMs at warmed-up idle about 100 miles ago, so it's going down? When I bought the bike out of the crate "NEW" (ahem..) it had 20 miles on the odometer and I'm wondering if it had been openned up to top-end a few times but I'll never know. The dealer said the "engineers" that "set the bike up" had to adjust settings and that is what the milage was from. I'm not too overly concerned as you probably can't do THAT much damage in 20 miles.. um.. probably.. sigh.

ANYWAY, does ANYONE know about this weird idle thing? It is my opinion that the idle was set when the bike was cold by the dealer. Can I change this myself?

ALSO, is there a 500-mile check-up or something that I'm supposed to take it back the 100 miles to the dealer again (which is a pain). If so, what exactly do they do? Currently, the FRAM oil filter CH6012 is out of stock in the entire state as I've called everywhere to get it and everyone is out of stock even cross-referencing stores within 200 miles of here. I believe this is because Kawasaki uses the same oil filter for most of their vehicles and it IS the height of the season, after all. NAPA is able to get me one ordered next week so I can do the oil change myself which incidentally seems to be WAY TOO COMPLICATED for an oil change! My Katana was simply a drain plug and an oil filter but the 250 seems to have dozens of little parts (wtf?!) Quite an upcoming adventure! ;p
