i need some input......

I have been looking for a ninja 250 to buy for about six months now. This is the bike i want, i know this due to sites like this which have convinced me it is the best bike for the buck. I have found an 88 ninja 250 in near mint condition with 9000 miles on it. the dealer is asking $1400. i love the older 250's especially the red and black but im still not sure. how long will the ninja last? is 9k miles past its peak. I know 1400 is a little high, i am hoping to talk him down. do you think it is worth the money? any input would be greatly appreciated.
