250 vs 500

I have heard a lot of bad things it seems about the 500. You would think that a 500 would be better than a 250 in a lot of ways, but it seems like a lot of people recommend a 250 over a 500. Which one has the better engine, suspension, gas mileage, etc. It's kind of a wide-span question, but I juss really wanna know.
