Portland, Oregon area ride.

Weather permitting, I will lead a ride of Portland area/Southwest Washington riders on some of the more scenic and curvy back roads of Clark and Skamania counties, Washington. The ride will go up the Columbia River Gorge on the Washington side, but wil not use a whole lot of hwy 14. We will go through Carson and perhaps have lunch there, and then up the Wind River hwy to the cutoff down to road 90 in the Gifford Pinchot forest. There is a great overlook of Mt St Helens on this section. On road 90 we will pass by the Lewis River Falls area and probably stop at Lower Falls, which is close to the road. After road 90 intersects with road 25, we will follow the same route of last year's Mt St. Helens ride as far as Cougar. Shortly after Cougar we will get on some curvy back roads to Woodland. If there is enough time, we could stop at a restored 1870s gristmill about 9 miles out of Woodland. At Woodland, Oregon riders can get on the freeway (5) back home.

The ride will feature some of the twistiest, made for Ninja 250 roads that I have found in the area, but because there are quiite a few intersections and road changes we are going to have to go at a sane pace that allows everybody to stay together, especially in the beginning.

I propose we meet at the Krispy Kreeme at the corner of Andreson and Paddon Parkway (used to be NE 83rd) in Vancouver at 9am on the 21st. For Oregon riders coming across on 205, take the Paddon Parkway exit west, and turn right on Andreson, which is the second light on Paddon Parkway. For riders coming over on Hwy 5, take SR500 east to Andreson. Go north on Andreson. Both approaches then turn right past the Shell station to get around to the Krispy Kreeme through the Home Depot parking lot. This Krispy Kreeme has outdoor seating where we can all meet over a coffee and donut. We will leave by 9:30. Gas up at the Shell station and we should be able to make the whole ride without needing more gas.

All bikes are welcome. Due to the extreme roller coaster nature of some of the roads, perhaps novice riders should pass on this ride, but regardless, its not going to be a race.
