| Kansas City ride June 26th..... |
Jennifer and I will be going on this ride; we'd love to have some other 250s along. It's a local club we belong to; they're a great bunch of folks.
Rulo Catfish Ride
Date: Sunday June 26, 2005
Time: 7:00 am registration begins; 8:00 am departure (gas available at start)
Start location: I-29 & Barry Road Starbucks Coffeehouse
(strip mall on NE corner, behind Winsted's)
Comments: This is an official HoAME club ride, with AMA insurance and everything!
Everyone must sign a waiver. There is NO FEE to participate.
Ride will be approx. 300-320 miles, lasting 8:00 am to about 4:00 pm. There will be gas stops about every 100 miles.
This will be a group ride at responsible speeds--meaning: 10 mph over the
limit, tops…less, through towns. If some participants wish to break off from the
group at certain points for extracurricular activities and re-join the group at a
later point, fine...just check in with the group leader to let everyone know what's
going on.
Highlights: We start the morning with about a 80 minute, really twisty backroads
segment up the Missouri side of the river, ending up in St. Joseph after
doing the ultra cool sweepers of County Road JJ. Across the river to Kansas 7,
up to White Cloud, where we stop at the 4-state lookout point, to stretch our
legs. Then on up to Rulo, Falls City and finally ending up in Brownsville at the
Steamboat Meriweather Lewis, an old steam-powered dredge boat. Dismount
and tour the boat...it's tres neat!
Saddle up again and cross the Missouri River there at Brownsville and come
back down backroads on the Missouri side to Rulo again, where we stop for a
catfish dinner (or whatever) at the CAMP RULO CATFISH CLUB on the river.
After the meal, participants can either continue with the group and ride down
the river on the Kansas side (Rulo, White Cloud, Troy, Atcheson, Leavenworth,
Hiway 5), or break off from the restaurant and head directly over to I-29 for a
quick (40 minute) return to Kansas City.
Ride ends at junction of Kansas 5 & I-435
