Re: Just like the manual says

Taken from my thread I just started about my problems...

For the first 150 miles, I kept the bike below 4k for pretty much all of it, taking it easy on her. Then I got the oil changed, and was told by a guy at the dealership that the Kawi sticker is a load of crap, and that he usually would stick with 6k for the first 500 or so, and then 10k until 1000 miles. Sadly, I had not done enough research on this wonderful site yet, and didn't know what I was actually doing. I did after that initial oil change stick to around 6k ish at first, then closer to 7 as I eclipsed 350-400miles, and then came in for my first service at around 480 miles or so, when I had the valves CHECKED, and the oil changed again. I kept it under 10k until around 900 miles when I took it out for it's first real beating... Man 13,000 felt good... If only I had gotten to it sooner. I don't think my rings ever seated properly, and my roommate said he could smell oil burning still when it was around 1000 miles. I've had one other oil change since then I think, and yeah. Oh, and I tried to vary engine speed as much as possible, which might not have been enough considering I was trying to maintain speed with cars going 50mph without actually going above 45mph to begin with...

My bike has burnt/sucked in oil ever since I bought it pretty much, which was brand new. Part of the oil consumption is from wringing the bike's neck, and part of it I'm sure is from not getting the rings seated properly. I think some of it was because I changed the oil too often in the first 1000 miles... A little crap in the oil can help SEAL the piston rings, and be a good thing for bike break in... Sad As of right now, I smoke. And my valves are tight because they were never adjusted in the first place(but were in spec, so...). Not sure what's going to happen next.
