I followed the break in procedure keeping it under 4000rpm for the first 300 miles then occasionally up to 5000rpm if I was on a street and needed to go 40mph to feel safe in traffic. Just ride on side streets around the area you live, you will be amazed how soon 500miles will come and if your new to riding it will give you enough time to make mistakes while still riding at slower speed.
