When in doubt, check the valves.

The 'new' motor I put in the Rally bike last weekend appears to have less than a couple thousand miles on it. When I checked the valves, two of the intakes were slightly looser than spec, all of the others were good.

It probably doesn't need any adjusting. Doesn't Andrew Duthie claim he's not adjusted his valve with more than 10,000 miles on the bike?

What do you plan to do with the bike? Do you plan to keep it for 30 or 40,000 miles? Or do you plan to 'move up' to a newer bike in less than 10,000 miles? If it's the latter, take it to the dealer that will 'check' the valves and call it close-enough. If it's the former, this is a good time to learn. Are you anywhere close to someone on the list who will show you how to do the valve adjustment?
