Re: 28HP WOW what did you do to loose 8 HP? stock they have 36hp

Horsepower isn't a simple thing to calculate.

Those 36 horsepower you're thinking of are the engine's Brake Horsepower. Brake Horsepower referrs to the maximum amount of power that the engine produces without being impeded by the transmission/drivetrain, generator, water pump, etc. the little 250 engine produces 36BHP.

It's SAE horsepower (hp (SAE)) is slightly less. the SAE measurement describes the maximum horsepower measured at the flywheel as the engine is installed, with the generator, water pump and other auxiliaries working normally. SAE power measures the power that makes it INTO the transmission. It's reasonable that the ninja engine produces around 33 hp (SAE).

Those 28 horsepower are most likely "effective horsepower" or "true horsepower," which is how much of the engine's energy actually gets converted into forward motion. from my theoretical 33 hp above, I imagine that a significant portion of that power is bled off in friction inside the transmission, in the chain, between the chain and sprockets, and in turning the rear wheel. EHP is measured at the rear wheel, and is the best way of comparing two vehicles in terms of performance. This measurement isn't about what the engine can do, but what the vehicle as a whole can.

Frankly 28 true horsepower is impressive.
