If you're asking if the Ninja 250 is a good first bike, the answer is a resounding YES. It's more than capable for freeway riding, and can very easily sustain freeway speeds for long periods of time with no worries. The 500 is also a very good bike, ultimately you just gotta decide if it's worth the extra money for the little bit of extra power you get, especially when the 250 will suffice just fine for all of your "real world" riding needs. Just make sure you take the MSF basic rider course, and please save yourself the pain and wear protective gear. For these basic questions you should really check the FAQ, as a lot of common questions you might have will be answered there.
Ride safe

Thanks, I plan on wearing a fullface helmet, leather racing jacket... Jeans or riding jeans (Ill do a leather jacket but a full body leather is a bit much)....

So yeah I just think the cost and the "smaller motor" will help my parents feel comfortable with me riding it...

I read somewhere about the tires sliding if you push it hard, something to worry about?

Also what would you guys expect insurance to be for a 17 year old rider on one... With average coverage...

A thousand a year? More? Less?

Thanks
