Video from a track day...

Actually, there are a couple of videos, but I'm actually in one of them for a bit. This video is taken pointed backwards off of an SV650. The guy riding is the son (17 year old) of a long time Bandit bud of mine. This is his 2nd track day, but he's been riding aggresively (as pillion and rider) for a while, so he's comfortable with lean angle and carrying corner speed. Anyways, his dad has this kid pumped up about beating me. lol I'd recommend having setting goals higher, but I guess you gotta start somewhere. This is the last session of the first day of a track weekend for US Desmo. I've been pretty much taking it easy, getting comfortable on the bike and working on specific things. This last session, Nick (17 yo SV rider) is waiting for me to stage and he drops in behind me and another bud of mine (John...old man like me on a GSXR 750) so he can see what I've got. LOL Again, people, set your goals higher than beating me!

So I know the kid wants to blow me away and I'm fine with it, he really is a faster rider than I am, but I figure that if everything feels good, I'll make it as tough as possible for him. Well, we actually have an audience because his mom and dad know he's wanting to "race" me as well as some of our other friends from the USDesmo and Suzuki board, so they all come out to hang and see how quickly the young man can take me out.

We pull out and I take the first lap and a half a bit easy to get the tires up to speed, but coming out of turn 8 (long right hander, really 3 turns, it's fun) I pick up the pace and feel pretty comfortable and got in a flow.

Lap 4, I'm rolling pretty well, have a good relaxed flow on and am really surprized he hasn't shown me a wheel yet or passed me, so I figure I'll keep on keepin' on.
Lap 5, I REALLY expect him to catch me in turn 11 or turn 1, but he didn't. Unfortunately, I'm starting to tire a bit and my legs are burning, but gonna stay relaxed and just keep at it.
Lap 6, dude finally gets me. Out braked me going into turn 11, not surprized about that, that is a tight turn at the end of a high speed section. We were probably going 125'ish and having to brake down to 30'ish. That is a struggle for me.

So here's the video of Lap 6, coming out of turn 3. He passes my bud John coming out of 8 after John steps out the back a bit. I'm the next guy Nick passes. Smile Enjoy!

That session was probably the best I've ever ridden in terms of consistency and speed. It was all clicking that session. I pushed myself a bit, but not so much my times slowed down. EVERYONE that was watching came up to the three of us afterwards and told how enjoyable it was to watch us. We had pulled completely away from the rest of the group and were really putting on a show. It was amazing for me and confident building. I watched that video, first time I've gotten to see myself "in action" and was more shocked/scared than when riding it. Riding on a track with friends is a LOT of fun.

To watch what an SV 650 can do in the hands of a really good rider, here's another session Nick taped. John was hanging with him. My buddy Rick is passed around the 7-8 minute mark. He's the guy that has helped me the most in terms of my approach to riding. I hope to be able to keep up with him one day. Anyway, as we say so many times here, it's more about the rider and not about the bike. He passes a red 1098 about the 5 minute mark, the just blows the guy away. Not sure where I was in this session. He never passed me but I wager he was catching up to me.

Enjoy!

Here's some regular pictures from the two track days. Notice the helicopter coming in?? That was for Nick on the second day. The 1st session after lunch, he high sided in turn 1 after the warm up lap and was unconsious for about 3 minutes with the bike on top of him. Not too good. He had been given numerous signs that he was pushing too hard (had gone off track a few times, had the rear step out a couple of times, had a control rider come over and tell him to slow down a bit), but he is young and just had to learn the hard way. Sad He is ok now though.

There are a few pictures of me on the ass of an Aprilia Falco. That is a bud of mine that I was watching and helping, all the while I was working on my riding. Best to do those at a slower speed.

Track days are fun!
