The same is true of my tail bag. I used one last weekend:
The rear bungees went to the OEM rings below the tail light. The front bungess stretched to the rear pillion pegs, scratching the paint. At some point, I'll install permanent front hooks in the bodywork, Aerostitch has these bungee loops that I'll probably try.
I can carry all I need for 24-36 hours in a tail bag, so I may not even bother with saddlebag secure points.
The classic 250 spoiled us in regards to baggage. The '08 is typical of most 'sport' style cycles.
