NESBA track days at Hallett

This past Saturday and Sunday I was able to use my NESBA membership for the first time. I have heard alot of good things about the organization and it definitely lived up to and exceeded what I was expecting. For those of you that do not know, NESBA is a volunteer / nonprofit run track day organization. NESBA has control riders that are top notch riders many of which either were or are current top level racers.

The day was broken down into three groups beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I was in the beginner group. here's a brief rundown of how the days went: After getting the bike and my gear through tech there was a riders meeting. Then the beginner group met with one of the control riders and went through the different signals the control riders would be using, and went over the flags and proper track procedures. What was neat was he also had a bike set up and went over different things like proper body position and techniques. The meeting was kept short because with NESBA there is more focus with on track coaching and learning. After this the Advanced group went on the top of the hour and every 20 mins the groups would change. We were on the track from 9 until 12, then from 1 until 5.

What I really enjoyed about NESBA was the control riders focus alot on hands on track learning and instruction. For the Hallett days this past weekend there was appx 1 control rider for every 2 riders in the beginner group. On Saturday there were probably 6 or so riders in Beginner, and on Sunday there were only 4 Big grin. I was told this was a smaller turnout than usual, mostly because of alot of people not knowing about the organization around my area. But, having the track mostly to myself was great! NESBA limits the amount of riders that are able to sign up for each day to keep traffic down and ensure alot of 1 on 1 instruction. Throughout the day, in the beginner and intermediate groups the control riders would ride with the group and point out things that needed correcting to the riders. If needed the control rider would pull in front and tap the tail and have you follow them around and point out the proper apex, body position, or any other thing they noticed the rider needing help on. The areas I found I needed the most work were my upper body position and using the entire track. For body position, I get my bottom half off correctly, but I still keep my head in the middle of the bike and fail to point my inside shoulder in and down. For some reason its difficult for me to position myself with my head to the side.... My other area that needs work is using the whole track, the control riders pointed out that I can carry alot more corner speed if I use the whole track, I was told "you paid to use the track, so use all of it". Another neat thing about the control riders is that after every session you meet with them immediately after the session in the pit and they will coach you on what areas to work on. If you want evaluated you let them know and they will follow you around the session and help you improve. All the NESBA crew were amazing. Very approachable and knowledgeable.

This NESBA experience was great. The instruction and help I received from the NESBA control riders by far exceeded anything I have had yet, Including the Pridmore STAR school. If you are near any tracks that NESBA rides at GET THE MEMBERSHIP! The one on one instruction you get by riding with NESBA is amazing.

Also, if there is an event near your area, and your not sure about the membership, you can sign up for the intro group and get 2 sessions free of charge to see if you would be interested. Thats two free track sessions Big grin
