Better to Race an EX250 or an SV650?

I've been riding my SV650 for 7 years.

I'd like to do a few track days and maybe some races next year. I'd like to get in a track day on my daily rider, my SV650, before the year's over, but for next year I'd like to pick up a dedicated, race prepped bike.

I've been searching for pros and cons for buying an SV650 vs. an EX250. I'm here asking for knowledge or links to good threads.

I'm in Houston, and if I race, I'll most likely be in the CMRA.

Here's what I've heard so far:
both are relatively common and cheap (and lots of spares)
both reliable and (relatively) cheap to race
both are beginner friendly (maybe not so much for the SV650?)
both have marginal stock suspensions (and will need similar expenditure in that regards)
both have excellent rider communities and support

specifics-
EX250:
pro:
lower speeds are naturally safer
light is fuN!


con:
fairings need replacement if damaged (is this true? Can't I just make ithe ninja naked?)
so slow that other bikes tend to "run over" you - unsafe performance differential

SV650
pro:
more modern bike
can keep up with track traffic
no fairings

con:
faster, naturally less safe if crash (really that much faster, though?)
eats more tires/brakes (how much more?)
heavier than Ninja (but only by 30-40 lbs)
