Except racing! Plastics serve an aerodynamic purpose!
You'll have no problem riding the 250 on the track with no plastics. If you actually race you will want plastics. With the HP contraints present the 250 needs every bit of help getting top speed. If you race with other 250s and you're the only one without plastics I'm sure that it will make a difference.
