Re: 2008 seat cowl accessory coming loose

I hear that folks have had the cowling come loose. so did I. Heres the problem, and the fix.

The black rubber grommet that comes with the cowl is flimsy, and nearly the wrong size. You will notice that the grommet is a Pain in the A$$ to install, and when installed moves around. once the grommet is in the little nipple on the cowl is supposed to be secured to the bike by this grommet...what is happening is that when the cowl is pressed down the nipple pushes the grommet through the hole in the frame. you may notice that it feels like its secure[at first] but as you ride the grommet falls off the nipple and now the cowl is just floaing around, being held on by only the seat latch.
I have done both of the folllowing:
(A) replace grommet with a thicker one from ACE hardware Take the OEM one with you and compare. tyhe replacement one will be a bit of a pain to install but holds the cowling tight!
(B)- apply some clear silicon to the OEM Grommet to secure it to the frame.

Also be sure and press down on the front of the cowl and insure that the seat latch has fully engaged.... this should solve the problem...it did for me-DARTHS DAD
