Re: mileage

After I upgraded my tires - Avon Roadrider rear and BT45 front I noticed a slight drop in mileage. There was a 3k mile difference between when I put the Avon on the back and when I put the BT45 on the front. After putting the larger bt45 on the front, it corrected some of the speedo error and hence the mileage "dropped". I get about 60 mpg when going mostly highway. I am sure it would be about 70 mpg if I cruised around in 6th at 50 mph for most of a tank.

I do tend to ride the snot out of my bike. Most of my riding is for fun and I like to keep the rpm between 7 and 11k. THis is obviously the sweet spot for the power band but not for mileage. Back in the Fall I would take nice 250 mile jaunts across the state, much of it on backroads and I would get higher mpg.

Wind drag increases at something more than a linear rate as speed increases, so the lower speeds where you are putting around in 6th but not lugging are where you get your mileage.
