How full to fill it.

I fill it with as much as I can put in it. The only exceptions:
1) If I don't have enough money to fill it all the way.
2) If I know I'm going to stop again soon and the price at the later stop is less.
3) If I have to stop long enough that the sun shining on the tank will cause the fuel to expand and overflow - riding 10 miles is always enough to prevent overflow.

If you have a California fuel tank it's possible to put too much fuel in it and overflow into the charcoal canister. A 49 state tank can be filled completely.

I have put 5.1 gallons in my stock 49 state tank many times. With a 17 mile commute and a fuel station about 1/3 of the way to work, anything less than 4.6 gallons means I could have waited until the next time by.
