Re: Bad gas mileage - chain, altitude, or both...?

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been pretty good about my chain maintenance. I check/clean/adjust/lube every 500 miles and immediately following any wet or extra dirty riding. I've ridden through quite a bit of bad weather and rain over the years so at 21k miles I'm not surprised my chain is going... I'm pretty convinced after rurugger's post that the chain is my problem. When I pull in the clutch and coast I feel like the bike is slowing down much quicker than usual (but I'm not sure if that's just in my head). Definitely noticing a lack of power and when I filled up I calculated my mileage to be about 45mpg. I can feel the tight spot in the chain when rotating the rear wheel by hand and can hear it when I'm coasting. Anyway, new chain and sprockets are here - hopefully will be installed tomorrow. Will definitely post an update once I run a tank or two through with the new chain (and I'm guessing I'll be able to tell by feel, although the new 15T sprocket will be different for me already).
