i can understand all of those points. they work for me though so that's what i do. i might change every couple weeks just to keep them fresh.
i've never had a problem with ear infections.
they do get noticeably thinner after a while. they still compress/expand enough to have a tight fit though. if i wore them for a number of hours, my ears would feel sore from the tightness. as i said though, the noise blocking capability was reduced with age.
