Pretty complete report...

The Goldwing was actually a Kawasaki Voyager XII (for anyone who cared) - that's my only correction. Smile I'll add that Joani commented why the guy who led the ride last year wasn't around.

For those who were there, last year's leader was the big guy with a big GF/wife on a CBR (I think). The one whose undertail license plate scraped the top of his tire, and wore no gear. He was missing because he lost his arm in a motorcycle accident, and (fortunately) got it reattached. I think she said it was a head-on collision with the driver of the pickup truck at fault. As with Allen's accident, being in the right is small comfort - this year could have been a double memorial ride if things happened just a little differently.

Take it easy on the streets, folks, and be prepared to let people cut you off or cross the center line (which happened to Geekonabike, Han, and I after the memorial ride SEVERAL times). You can be right, or possibly you can spend a lifetime of enjoying narrow twisty roads slightly slower, with the occasional indignity put upon you. Gear probably won't keep your arm attached, but a little reduction in accident severity by being conservative, and a little (or a lot) more reduction from gear can make the difference between one emergency surgery, or many surgeries, or zero surgeries because there's nothing to save.

Thanks again for hosting this, Joani.

-Matt
