Shop Around

Wife and I switched companies this last year after 20 years with the same place.

Specifically on the M/C's I now pay for both the Ninja 250 and the Connie what I paid for the Connie before with full coverage and higher liability limits than before. $589 now, $540 before. Old liability 100,300,50 new liability 250,500,100. $500 deductible on collision, $100 comprehensive.

Overall the wife and I got -- Home, Car, Truck, 2 M/C and our Travel Trailer plus added a new to US 1 Million dollar umbrella Policy for $900 less than what we used to pay.

After seeing our premiums just go crazy we finally started calling around. We Checked Allstate, Progressive, Geico, State Farm, Farmers, and since we are old enough through one of them AARP discount places.

The AARP discount place advertises ( like they all do ) you'll save hundreds over the other guy. Reality was all these different quotes were within $200 bucks of each other for the entire lot, Home, Car, Truck, 250, Connie, TT. Apples to apples coverage. -- Which was all over a grand cheaper than the existing company for 20 years. We called them and asked. They told us it was the best they could do. Bye.

Next was I started researching the companies on the internet to see about service and complaints. Of course there is someone who complains, those were easy to find. I could not find it right now, but back then I could a place that rated insurance companies and gave a report in terms of service, # of claims, # of customers, bla bla bla.

Finally I went into see an agent for the company we chose. I highly recommend this. We learned our liability limits were too low for todays market. And the cost for the upgrade was low for us. We found areas to save to offset. Then talked about and went for the Umbrella Policy. Wife and I decided that we could afford it and still save $900 bucks.
