I'm 5-11 and 170 and the bike fits me well. Most modern 600s make very poor starter bikes because their capabilities far exceed most new riders' experience and reflexes. The most important things to remember are: 1. Take the MSF. It's mandatory in many states, should be in all states. 2. Your first bike is not your last bike (though sometimes with 600 and larger bikes it turns out to be).

I'm 6'2" and about 200 lbs. The 250 is plenty fast for me.
