It all depends on what you want the system to do.

If you're expecting sound that is clear and full to reach you through your full-face helmet on the highway you're looking at an unrealistic amount of work. If you're goal is music for 10-15 mph cruises while wearing an open-face helmet, you're doing better. If you want a system that you can turn on in parking lots or campsites where you'll be sitting near the bike and it's otherwise quiet I think you'll have good luck.

Bikes that I see with sound systems typically have large cowls where fairly decent sized speakers can be mounted (4", 5.25" or 6.5" round, possibly even component sets). See here and here. I'm also assuming those bikes have charging systems with substantially more electrical overhead than the ex250. Finally there's room for the (waterproof) device that powers the speakers, be it an amp with a line-in or an actual CD player or radio with usb/SD capabilities.

I wanted to be able to listen to music while I rode and went with in-helmet speakers. They're battery powered and work via bluetooth (specifically a2dp so I can control my media player through the helmet mounted buttons) and they're loud enough that I can hear no matter my speed. I also benefit from the ability to communicate with other bikers that I ride with frequently, as they're all using the same system. I can also hear cars and sirens over the music, which I keep as low as possible.

I use this but there are others, like this. Read objective reviews here. Or for a cheap alternative find yourself some thin, velcro backed speakers with a 3.5mm jack and plug them into the phone/ipod/zune/garmin/laptop/portable moog synth of your choice. Like these that fit in your helmet.

If you're really thinking speakers and an amp, try marine equipment. The speakers and radios and whatnot for use in boats are designed for exposure to water, etc.
