Northwest GRR Meeting......June 25th

This is the ride I proposed earlier, but cancelled due to proximity to the opening date of the road to Windy Ridge. Turns out it wasn't opened at the time they planned due to weather and we would not have been able to do it then anyway. Hopefully the weather will be good by June 25th. The road is open and I have been up to Windy Ridge.

The Meeting:

My plan is that riders from the Seattle area and Northern/Central Washington meet riders from Portland/Southwest Washington and Oregon at the Windy Ridge viewpoint on Mt. St Helens at 1 pm on June 25th. I plan to lead the southern contingent and would like to see somebody from up north lead the northern group. If no leader asserts him/her self, I would suggest anyone still wanting to come to take the following route: hwy 410 from Enumclaw to road 162 towards Orting, then south on the Orville road to Eatonville. At Eatonville, take the Eatonville hwy to hwy 7 south. Stay on 7 to Morton, then take hwy 12 to Randel. Go south from Randel on road 131 and then forest road 25 south until you come to road 99 to Windy Ridge. Prepare for the best twisties in the Northwest in the 16 miles to Windy Ridge.

Portland/Oregon riders:

Lets meet at the Lava Java coffee shop at the Ridgefield junction at 9am. Take exit 14 when coming north on I-5. Turn right at the top of the off ramp and follow the road around to a mini mall on the right, less than 1/4 mile. Lava Java is in the mini mall. We will leave at 9:30, and I will lead the way on some back roads of Clark County through LaCenter and over through Amboy to Cougar. After Couger we will let Duane run free and not be held up anymore because he knows the rest of the route.

The only glitch to my plan so far is that the lunch spot I had planned to use.....the Burger Buggy at Eagle Cliffs in the middle of the woods......is not open due to the previous operator quitting. They may find a new operator by June 25th so I will keep checking. If it is not open there is hardly anywhere else to eat between Cougar and Randle, and either one will mean a late lunch. There is a good resturant at Ridefield Junction that you will go right by on the way to Lava Java, so you might want to get there early and have a big breakfast.

This ride is open to anybody, I don't care what your skill level is, we will try to make sure somebody keeps an eye out for you. There are some really, really twisty roads, though. Hope for some good weather, it certainly hasn't been good lately, but SURELY by late June things will shape up.
