| IBR: Day 5, Getting Tough |
For the first time, Leon's starting to sound like the monster's taking a toll on him. This morning, when I told him he was barely going to make it to FL in time based on his current location, he sounded even lower. But then I reminded him he had time for 4 hours of sleep tonight built into the route, and his whole day turned around. "Really? Oh. Then I can do that! That's just great!" was the reply.
We're now into uncharted territory for the rider, not to mention the bike, which I can imagine the rider wishes would blow up for the sheer relief of a rest. But this is the Iron Butt Rally. Not for the faint of heart. It's like a comment I recently heard about the Tour De France. Even the last placed guy to finish is still an absolutely incredible athlete.
...and we're not even half way.
Heather and I are walking out the door headed for Florida. I'll call in a report to someone who can post it here as soon as I hear anything new. -Duke
