MPG suddenly jumped 10%

I've had my 2006 for 26K miles and almost 3 years. All that time, I've gotten a very consistent 50MPG, plus or minus 1, on my regular commute, which has a lot of stop-and-go and a lot of 80-indicated on the freeway. I sometimes got higher mileage, but that was in situations like group rides in the country at a mellower pace. The regular stuff was always 50.

Now, in the last three tanks, I'm getting 55MPG. I've done nothing to the bike in many months, other than oil changes and chain lube. I'm not riding any more conservatively. I've perhaps spent a little more time on the reserve petcock than I used to. (I just saw that thread about riding on reserve for ~50 miles at the beginning of a fill-up, and I like that idea, but I haven't actually started doing it yet.)

Brakes? Chain? Neither seems likely. So I'm puzzled, but happy.
