 Subject: Track day at Willow

I've been looking at track days since my track bike is now nearly complete. But what I found is that most of the organizations in my area are only running on the big track, which has some fairly long straights. I'm wondering if its worth doing on the 250? I don't want to have my day ruined like in the canyons on the weekend, where folks on their big CC bikes go flying past on the traights and then drop anchor at the first hint of a corner, making me have to run slower to keep from hitting them, and passing doesn't help (some track organizers don't even allow it in novice level) because then they fly by again on the next straight. I'd much rather run on one of the smaller circuits, but they do not appear to be available (except for Superbike School, which is waaay too much $$). Anyway, opinions wanted, and if anyone is planning a track day this year at Willow let me know!

Which is 2.9 miles and 13 turns, and also Harris Hill Road, which is an 11 turn, 1.8 mile course, I have to say that HHR was a lot more fun, but even though it was relatively short, the big bikes were still passing me on the straights and holding me up in the turns. TWS was still a lot of fun, and with the longer straights, it gave the bigger bikes more distance to pull ahead, which was nice when it came to the corners, as most of them were in and out before I got there. Streets of Willow definitely looks more fun with the more curves, but I'm sure the longer course would still be enjoyable.

I am definitely up for a track day sometime soon! Which organizations were you looking at? Even though I've done three track days, I would still want to do a school of some kind. Also, you would be welcome to stay at my house the night before so you wouldn't have to get up quite as early - I would just need to let my roommates know.

on 3/18. The price is right at $125, and it's a Friday so plenty of recovery time for soreness or (god forbid!) injury due to an off. Right now my bud is planning on coming with, and I'm only 65 miles from there, so it's not a big haul, but I appreciate the invite! I'll probably know within a week or two if I'm definitely going. Wanna come?

Let me know when you decide, and I'll do it if you do it. I do have some maintenance stuff I need to do before I go on the track, which I am going to send you a PM regarding something I need.

Just like Matt said, on the bigger track it'll give them room to space out a little bit more. It does also give late comers a chance to try and squeeze in a pass at the last moment...

Things like this will happen in every group you're in, at every track you ride, with every provider you ride with. You might find a sweet spot when your riding ability just happens to match THAT DAY'S group at THAT track with THAT provider and have an easy time with it. The best ways to minimize this are: 1) Get better at passing 2)Go to the track on "off" days. 3) Go to the track on <3 group days (generally fewer riders allowed per day)

Just get out on a track. And do it as often as you can!

I paid for the track day already, so I'm locked in. Now I just need to get the track bike buttoned up. The only things left to do are:

Fill the gas tank
Check the jetting
mount a catch bottel for the coolant (water and water wetter, not really coolant)
CCT (that thing is noisy as heck!)
Quickie road test to confirm she's all good
Final clean of all old oil / crud from the bottom of the engine
